Göppingen’s new family mentors bring hope to struggling households

Göppingen welcomes new family mentors, including retired doctor Michael Leidig and former nursing professional Petra Holdschuer. These volunteers aim to provide relief and support to families facing challenges.

Family mentors in Göppingen offer a lifeline to struggling families, bringing fresh perspectives and joy. They assist with daily tasks, accompany children to leisure activities, and provide guidance during appointments. The role is open to anyone with time and a caring heart, regardless of their life experience.

Training covers essential skills such as communication, understanding the mentor's role, intercultural competence, and conflict management. However, mentors are not sent to families requiring professional help, like cases involving addictions or abuse.

The new mentors, including Leidig and Holdschuer, will support families in Göppingen through voluntary work. Interested individuals can contact their local district administration office for more information on becoming a family mentor.
