GGMasters 6th Anniversary Sets Historic $1.79M Poker Overlay Record
The GGMasters 6th Anniversary tournament has made poker history by setting the largest overlay ever recorded in online play. The event fell short of its $10 million prize pool guarantee by $1,791,760, surpassing previous records. Nine players now remain, each securing at least $110,430, with the winner set to claim over $1.1 million. The tournament began with ambitious plans. Organisers expected 72,464 entries across seven starting flights to meet the $10 million guarantee. Despite multiple entry options and a packed schedule, the target was missed by a significant margin.
This overlay eclipses the previous online record from PokerBaazi's GOAT event in 2024, which overlayed $1,400,000. The largest live overlay, however, still belongs to the 2014 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, where the shortfall reached $2,505,000. Brazilian player Ramon Kropmanns enters the final table as chip leader, holding 137,514,607 in chips. Among the contenders, Ireland's 'dueceswild' sits near the bottom with the second shortest stack, despite having just over $1,000 in prior recorded winnings. The GGMasters series has grown rapidly since its launch in 2021, when it offered a $300,000 guarantee. By 2023 and 2024, the event featured $10 million guarantees, though this year's edition marks the first time the platform failed to meet that mark.
The record-breaking overlay highlights the challenges of guaranteeing massive prize pools, even with multiple entry flights. The final table will decide who takes home the top prize of $1,108,712, while all remaining players have already secured six-figure payouts. The tournament's outcome will likely influence future guarantee strategies in online poker.
