A new report, 'Bridging the Gap between Gambling Support and Financial Assistance', has praised the crucial role of GamCare's Money Guidance Service in connecting those in need with vital support. Conducted by Dr Xia Lin and Professor Alessio D'Angelo from the University of Bristol's Personal Finance Research Centre (PFRC), the evaluation recognises the service's effectiveness and importance. Launched in 2022 with pilot schemes in Yorkshire, Humber, and East Midlands, the service offers debt advice and gambling support to individuals affected by gambling-related financial harm. It has since been rolled out nationally, ensuring access to people across the country. The service delivers internal training to National Gambling Helpline advisors, enabling them to make referrals and offer basic financial assistance. Kathy Wade, Money Guidance Service Manager at GamCare, expressed excitement about the service's impact. The evaluation report, commissioned to experts from the PFRC, highlights the service's critical role in filling a gap between gambling support and financial assistance.
