GamCare names D'Arcy Myers as new CEO amid UK gambling reforms
GamCare has appointed D'Arcy Myers as its new chief executive. The charity, which works to reduce gambling-related harm, will now be led by a specialist in strategic development and charity leadership. Myers takes over from Anna Hemmings, who expanded the organisation's influence over the past five years.
Myers brings extensive experience from senior roles at major charities, including Allergy UK, The Percy Hedley Foundation, and The Solicitors Charity. He has also worked as an independent consultant, helping organisations navigate change and improve their impact.
His immediate focus will be steering GamCare through the ongoing consultation phase of the UK's Gambling White Paper. This follows a period of significant regulatory change, including the Gambling Act 2025 reforms. New measures—such as stricter affordability checks, a statutory levy on operators, and lower stake limits for online slots—are now being rolled out. GamCare supports awareness campaigns and self-exclusion programmes, partnering with key stakeholders to widen its reach. Myers aims to build on Hemmings' work, driving innovation and collaboration to better protect vulnerable groups. His leadership will prioritise safer gambling practices and stronger safeguards for those at risk.
The charity's new direction comes at a critical time for UK gambling regulation. Myers' strategic background and experience in charity governance will shape GamCare's response to evolving policies. His role will be central in ensuring the organisation continues to reduce harm and promote responsible gambling.
