GambleAware’s Bold Campaign Breaks the Silence on Gambling Harm

A three-year campaign called Let’s Open Up About Gambling ran from April 2023 to May 2025. Organised by GambleAware, it aimed to reduce the stigma around gambling-related harm. The initiative encouraged people to talk openly about the issue and seek help when needed.

The campaign targeted adults aged 18 to 44 with gambling problems. At least seven in ten people in this group reported seeing its messaging. More than nine in ten took action after recognising the campaign’s advice.

GambleAware worked to make conversations about gambling harm more common. It also helped individuals spot signs that they or someone close might need support. Despite these successes, shifting deep-rooted societal attitudes remains a challenge. Experts suggest that long-term efforts will be necessary to maintain progress. Future campaigns should keep involving people with lived experience of gambling harm. This approach builds trust and makes anti-stigma messages more effective.

The Let’s Open Up About Gambling campaign achieved strong visibility and engagement among its audience. It highlighted the importance of ongoing work to tackle stigma. However, no details have been shared about future support for those dealing with lifelong gambling issues.
