French Super Cup in Kuwait Sparks Sports and Business Diplomacy

The French Super Cup is set to take place in Kuwait, drawing strong interest from fans and business leaders. With ticket sales nearing 90 percent capacity, excitement for the event is high. Before the match, a reception hosted by the French Embassy brought together key figures from both nations to explore sports and economic partnerships.

The Embassy of France in Kuwait organised a reception on the eve of the French Super Cup. Attendees included French and Kuwaiti business leaders, investors, and decision-makers from various sectors. These ranged from event management and sports infrastructure to digital solutions, athlete health, and hospitality.

Alessandro Antonello, CEO of Olympique de Marseille, spoke positively about the visit to Kuwait. He highlighted the potential for future sports-related business collaborations. David Abdelkader-Corrihons, Second Counsellor at the French Embassy, reinforced France’s dedication to supporting Kuwait’s modern sports infrastructure and professional sports ecosystems. The event also celebrated the 65th anniversary of Franco-Kuwaiti diplomatic relations, due in 2026. Didier Domi, a former French international footballer and coach, praised Kuwait’s hospitality and passion for football. He noted how the sport brings people together across cultures. Before the match, a 12-minute musical performance will feature international artist Cheb Khaled alongside Kuwaiti musicians. This cultural exchange reflects the broader aim of strengthening ties between the two countries. The French Super Cup itself, established in 1995, remains one of football’s most prestigious fixtures, broadcast on over 122 satellite channels worldwide.

The reception and upcoming match signal growing cooperation between France and Kuwait in sports and business. Ticket sales for the French Super Cup have nearly sold out, showing strong local enthusiasm. The event also opens doors for future partnerships in sports infrastructure and international event management.
