Four Diamond Casino opening delayed again due to rising costs and permits

The opening of the Four Diamond Casino in East Hazel Crest and Homewood has been delayed again. Originally expected by late 2023, the project now faces a longer wait due to ongoing challenges. Developers have confirmed that unresolved issues and rising costs are pushing back the timeline.

Eight months after receiving approval, no visible construction has started on the casino site. Wind Creek and the Daly Group, the project's developers, have pointed to several key problems. Zoning approvals from local authorities remain unresolved, while environmental impact assessments required by the Illinois Gaming Board are still underway. Negotiations over intergovernmental agreements with the villages have also dragged on.

Rising material prices have added to the delays. The Daly Group has stated that these increased costs have forced changes to the original hotel plans. As a result, the casino's completion date has shifted from late 2023 to a more realistic target of late next year or early 2024.

The casino's opening is now unlikely before late 2024 at the earliest. Developers continue to work through permitting, environmental, and financial hurdles. Further updates are expected as negotiations and assessments progress.
