The image shows a group of people standing on top of a stage, some of them holding cameras and mobile phones, while others are throwing confetti in the air. There is a pole in the center of the stage and railings at the bottom. It appears to be a Super Bowl celebration, with the Philadelphia Eagles celebrating their victory.

Florida attorney bets $1M on Seahawks to fund pediatric cancer research

Florida attorney Dan Newlin has made headlines by placing a $1 million bet on the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl LX. If successful, the entire sum will go to pediatric cancer research at Nemours Children's Hospital. The wager reflects both his confidence in the team and a deeply personal cause.

Newlin's career began in law enforcement, serving as an Orange County deputy sheriff from 1998 to 2018. During his time there, he rose to the rank of Fugitive Detective while simultaneously attending law school. In 2001, he founded Dan Newlin Injury Attorneys, which has since grown into the second-largest personal injury firm in the U.S. Beyond his legal work, he has remained committed to public service, donating $720,000 for a helicopter to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. Most recently, in early 2026, President Trump nominated him as U.S. Ambassador to Colombia.

The bet itself was placed at odds of -230, meaning a Seahawks victory would yield a profit of $434,782. Newlin's decision to donate the winnings stems from a personal connection—his daughter's childhood best friend is battling cancer. His firm, with offices in Illinois and Florida, has long been involved in charitable efforts, but this wager marks one of his most public acts of philanthropy.

The outcome of the bet hinges on the Seahawks' performance in the upcoming Super Bowl. Regardless of the result, Newlin's pledge ensures that cancer research will benefit from his high-stakes wager. The move also highlights his ongoing commitment to both law enforcement and charitable causes.
