First-Time Poker Player Stuns Experts with $10K Tournament Run

Linda Hammons, a first-time poker player, made headlines with a strong showing at a major tournament. She finished 14th in the $500 Mystery Bounty event at The Beau Rivage Heater in Biloxi, Mississippi. The competition was part of the Gulf Coast Poker Tour series and drew experienced players from across the region.

Hammons entered the tournament with no prior competitive experience. Despite this, she outlasted many seasoned opponents, earning respect from fellow players and local media. Her deep run ended when she called a preflop all-in with K9♣ against an opponent’s QQ♣, resulting in her elimination.

In total, Hammons took home $10,100. This included $8,400 from the main prize pool and an additional $1,700 from bounties. The event itself was won by Randall Chase Cummins, who agreed to split the top prize with Michael Lech, a former WSOP bracelet winner.

Hammons’ performance marked an impressive debut in competitive poker. Her 14th-place finish in a field of skilled players demonstrated her potential in the game. The tournament also highlighted the growing appeal of the Gulf Coast Poker Tour series.
