Fire suppression system rupture injures 26 at Florida casino

A sudden rupture in a fire suppression system injured 26 people at Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Monday morning. The incident prompted an immediate evacuation and a swift response from local emergency crews. No life-threatening injuries were reported, but the casino temporarily closed its doors.

The rupture happened during a routine test of the system, which relies on non-flammable gas and compressed air. Around 100 people were inside the casino at the time. Insulation and drywall debris fell onto the gaming floor, damaging some equipment but causing no structural collapse or explosion.

Firefighters from Seminole Fire Rescue and Hollywood Fire Rescue arrived quickly after a 'mass casualty' alert was raised. Initial reports mentioned a possible partial building collapse, but no hazardous chemicals were detected. Of the 26 injured, 20 were treated at the scene and released, while six were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. The casino, one of six Seminole Gaming properties in South Florida, remained closed for much of the day. Authorities later confirmed that the gaming floor would reopen at 8:30 PM the same evening.

The incident left minor property damage and disrupted casino operations for several hours. All injured individuals received medical attention, with none suffering serious harm. Investigations into the cause of the rupture are expected to follow.
