Dublin Hosts Europe’s First Mixed Poker Championship with Poki and Epic Games

Tobias Jelsa Leknes, better known as 'senkel92', is bringing the European Mixed Poker Championship (EMPC) to Dublin from November 4 to 9. The cult leader of mixed-game poker enthusiasts is confident that his event, which includes games like Poki and Epic, will attract a large number of players, demonstrating a 'build it and they will come' attitude.

Leknes, who has previously headed the Norsk Pokerforbund, is expanding his influence with the EMPC. The event will take place at the Village Green Card Club in Tallaght and features nine tournaments with buy-ins ranging from €300 to €2,000. The highlight is the €800 8-Game Main Event, which includes a variety of games like Crazy Hold'em and Freeze-out.

The popularity of mixed games is spreading across Europe, with Dublin's poker scene embracing the trend. This is a departure from the past, when games like Stud and 5-card draw were more prevalent and romanticized. Leknes' cult of mixed-game poker enthusiasts uses cutesy acronyms for game mixes, adding to the event's unique charm.

Leknes aims for 100 entries in the Main Event and strong attendances across all tournaments. Despite No-Limit Texas Hold'em being the most popular poker variant in Europe, Leknes' confidence in the EMPC suggests that mixed games, including Poki and Epic, are gaining traction among European poker players.
