Disney’s *Buzz Lightyear* Ride Gets a High-Tech Makeover for 2026 Reopening
Disney has unveiled a first look at the revamped Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin attraction. The ride, closed since August, is undergoing major updates before its planned reopening in spring 2026. Among the changes are new interactive targets and a helpful support bot named Buddy.
The renovation honours Brian Copeland, a beloved former cast member known as 'Brian Lightyear'. Disney and Pixar paid tribute by presenting his brother with a special illustration featuring Brian alongside Buzz Lightyear.
Guests can expect a refreshed experience with upgraded features. The new targets will respond dynamically to blaster fire, lighting up and surprising riders with each hit. Buddy, the support bot, will guide visitors through their mission and assist with target practice. While details about the project’s leadership remain unclear, the attraction’s transformation is well underway. The ride’s closure began in August to allow time for these sweeping improvements.
The updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will welcome guests again in spring 2026. Interactive elements and Buddy’s assistance aim to enhance the experience. The tribute to Brian Copeland ensures his legacy remains part of the attraction’s story.
