Danish streamer fined for promoting illegal gambling in historic case

A Danish Twitch streamer known as MrBigB has been fined for promoting illegal gambling sites during his live broadcasts. The penalty marks the first successful prosecution of its kind in Denmark, following an investigation by the country’s gambling regulator.

The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) discovered the violation and reported it to police, resulting in a confirmed breach of national gambling laws.

The DGA, which enforces strict rules on both online and land-based gambling, identified MrBigB’s streams as promoting unlicensed gambling operators. These activities violated Denmark’s gambling regulations, which require all advertising to come from licensed providers.

After uncovering the unauthorised promotions, the DGA escalated the case to national police. Authorities confirmed the streamer had broken the law, leading to a fine of DKK 10,000 (around $1,460). This case represents the first time the DGA has taken legal action against unlawful gambling advertising within the country. Denmark maintains tight controls over its gambling sector to prevent unlicensed operators from targeting local audiences. The DGA regularly monitors platforms like Twitch to ensure compliance with advertising restrictions.

The fine against MrBigB sets a precedent for how Denmark handles illegal gambling promotions on streaming platforms. The DGA’s action highlights the risks content creators face when advertising unlicensed operators. Future cases of this nature may now face similar penalties under Danish law.
