Daniel Negreanu Finds Unique 'Cheat Code' in Wine During $100k Poker Tournament
The $100,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl at PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas has seen dramatic plays and bold moves. Daniel Negreanu, sipping wine throughout the event, pulled off a daring bluff while also making a disciplined fold against a stronger hand. Meanwhile, the field narrowed as two players exited early, with more big names set to join on Sunday.
Day 1 of the tournament began with 16 entrants, though registration remains open for another day. Jason Koon dominated early, turning his starting stack of 300,000 chips into roughly 1,000,000. Negreanu, however, stayed near his original stack for hours, fluctuating between small gains and minor losses.
Negreanu’s unorthodox approach drew attention when he called a bet with a weak 7♥5♥ on the flop, leaving commentators Ali Nejad and Brent Hanks puzzled. Later, he executed a bold bluff on the river, betting 60,000 with just seven-high, forcing Stephen Chidwick to fold the winning hand. After the play, Negreanu joked that 'wine is a f***ing cheat code.' Yet his disciplined side also showed when he folded a set of kings to Thomas Boivin’s all-in raise, which turned out to be a jack-high flush. By the time of reporting, Brandon Wilson and Nick Petrangelo had already been eliminated. On Sunday, Day 2 will welcome more high-stakes players, including Bryn Kenney and Nick Schulman. Negreanu’s next opponent will be John Riordan, who recently defeated Sam Soverel in a heads-up match at the final table.
The tournament continues with a mix of aggressive plays and strategic folds. Negreanu’s performance, fuelled by wine and sharp instincts, has kept him in contention. With more top players entering on Sunday, the competition is set to intensify as the field narrows further.
