Dallas Mavericks and Stars Clash in Court Over Arena Management
A legal battle has erupted between the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars, two iconic franchises sharing the American Airlines Center. The Dallas City Manager, Kimberly Bizor Tolbert, has urged both teams to remain committed to the city. Unlike previous disputes, this case has swiftly moved to the Texas Business Court.
The Mavericks, led by DSG's Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont, have filed a lawsuit against the Stars, accusing them of blocking arena upgrades and violating lease agreements. DSG claims the Stars are 'holding the arena hostage' and seeks court confirmation of its lease rights. The Mavericks also allege that the Stars have broken an agreement by moving their corporate headquarters from Dallas to Frisco.
The Stars have hit back with a countersuit, claiming the Mavericks' lawsuit is an attempt to seize control of arena management. They argue that their Frisco facility is supplementary to their principal downtown office. This dispute echoes past co-tenant conflicts in other cities, such as Philadelphia.
Both teams are currently exploring new venue options. The Stars are considering a relocation to suburban Plano by 2031, while the Mavericks are planning a new arena independently.
The Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars are now locked in a legal battle over arena management and lease agreements. The city manager has urged both teams to maintain their commitment to Dallas. As both franchises consider new venue options, the outcome of this lawsuit could significantly impact the city's sports news.
