Cyprus to launch new casino resort licence in bid to boost tourism
Cyprus is preparing to issue a new casino licence within the next year. The government aims to boost tourism by expanding gambling and entertainment options. Tourism Minister George Lakkotrypis confirmed the plans, stressing that only an integrated resort model is under consideration.
The upcoming casino resort will feature hotels, restaurants, shops, and themed parks alongside gambling facilities. Authorities expect the project to attract more visitors and generate significant tax revenue from betting activities.
Cyprus already hosts two integrated casino resorts: City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol, which opened in 2021, and Eniissa in Nicosia, launched in 2025. Lakkotrypis highlighted that the new development will focus on enhancing tourist services rather than just expanding gambling. The minister reiterated that the resort's main purpose is to strengthen Cyprus' appeal as a holiday destination. By combining entertainment, hospitality, and gaming, the government hopes to create a major draw for international travellers.
The licence for the new casino resort is set to be awarded in the coming months. Once operational, the project will add to Cyprus' existing casino offerings while aiming to increase tourism numbers. Officials anticipate both economic benefits and a rise in visitor arrivals from the expanded facilities.
