China, Switzerland Mark 75 Years of Ties, Pledge Cooperation
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met with Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations. The meeting, part of the fourth Strategic Dialogue cycle, saw both nations reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism and cooperation. Wang called for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and a two-state solution, while warning against hegemonic aspirations and protectionism.
Wang and Cassis agreed to strengthen cooperation between Switzerland and China. Wang appreciated Switzerland's one-China policy regarding Taiwan. The Chinese Foreign Minister announced further measures to facilitate travel to China and promote mutual understanding with various European nations, including Austria, Slovenia, and Poland. Wang also emphasized the principle of non-interference in internal affairs in the history of relations between the two countries.
Looking ahead, Cassis and Wang aim to quickly develop an updated and more comprehensive free trade agreement to tackle current economic challenges. Cassis expects to present concrete results of this optimization at the beginning of next year.
