Chef Gianba Vinzoni rises from the ashes with a new Venice restaurant

Chef Gianbattista 'Gianba' Vinzoni has reopened Cinque Terre West in Venice after losing multiple businesses in the Palisades fire. The restaurant, relaunched at the end of June, marks a fresh start for the Vinzoni family. Their original location, along with their home, was destroyed in the January blaze.

The bright blue facade of the new Venice venue has already become a familiar sight for locals. Many former Palisades residents now visit, finding comfort in the dishes they once enjoyed before the disaster.

Gianba Vinzoni and his wife Marlo first opened Cinque Terre West in 2019, drawing inspiration from Gianba’s Ligurian heritage. The couple also ran Enoteca 5 wine bar and Deliziozo Cinque bakery in the Palisades before the fire. Their original restaurant, Vinzoni’s Ristorante, had operated at 1465 N Sepulveda Blvd in Manhattan Beach.

On 7 January 2025, the Vinzonis returned from holiday to discover their condo and businesses severely damaged. After the fire, they briefly used a ghost kitchen to keep serving customers. They later secured the former Bluestone Lane space on Rose Avenue in Venice for their comeback.

The new Venice location serves the same regional Italian dishes that made their Palisades restaurant popular. Signature dishes include Gianba’s grandmother’s pesto and buridda, a rich seafood stew. The compact patio offers a cozy spot with a clear view into the lively kitchen.

Despite the setback, the Vinzonis remain unsure about reopening in the Palisades. For now, their focus stays on rebuilding in Venice, where the community has welcomed them warmly.

Cinque Terre West in Venice now stands as a symbol of resilience for the Vinzonis and their customers. The restaurant continues to attract Palisades residents seeking a taste of home. While the future of their Palisades locations remains uncertain, the family is determined to move forward in their new space.
