Charlestown fights for recognition as Wynn Casino's host community

Charlestown residents have launched a petition to be recognised as a host community for the upcoming Wynn Casino in Everett. The $1.2 billion project, led by developer Steve Wynn, has raised concerns among locals about its impact on their neighbourhood. So far, the petition has gathered 254 signatures. The casino's location in Everett places Charlestown closer to the site than roughly a third of Everett's own residents. Many fear their area will bear the brunt of increased traffic, as most casino-bound vehicles are expected to pass through their streets.

Residents argue that without official host status, their concerns over infrastructure and congestion may go unaddressed. The petition highlights the lack of clear data on how many households will be affected or what traffic management plans exist for surrounding neighbourhoods.

The outcome of the petition remains uncertain, but its supporters hope for formal recognition. If successful, Charlestown could gain a voice in discussions about mitigating the casino's effects. For now, the community continues to push for answers on traffic, infrastructure, and their role in the project.
