Casino dress codes crumble as venues chase younger crowds and comfort

Industry experts point to three main reasons: appealing to younger crowds, recovering foot traffic after COVID-19, and competing with online gambling platforms.
Robert Jarvis, a law professor specialising in gaming regulations, noted that even prestigious casinos like those in Monte Carlo have softened their rules. He questioned whether venues would risk losing customers by enforcing strict policies. Jarvis also warned that dress code enforcement must not become discriminatory. His advice to patrons? Check the rules before visiting.
Rev. Richard McGowan, another industry observer, predicted that Las Vegas casinos would likely continue relaxing their standards. The focus, he suggested, is now on comfort and accessibility rather than tradition.
The incident involving Testa reflects a changing landscape in casino policies. With venues prioritising inclusivity and footfall, formal dress codes appear to be fading. For now, visitors are encouraged to review guidelines before entering, but the trend suggests stricter rules may soon become a thing of the past.
