Cardiac Surgeon-Turned-Innovator Leads England’s Health Transformation
Professor Ben Bridgewater has been named the new Executive Chair of the Health Innovation Network, a role that will see him lead England's 15 regional health innovation networks nationally. He will continue to serve as Chief Executive of Health Innovation Manchester while taking on these new responsibilities.
Bridgewater brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked as a cardiac surgeon, clinical leader, and innovator. He has a proven track record in delivering national policy, driving digital transformation, and forging NHS-industry partnerships. In his new position, he will focus on strengthening the Network's national influence and impact, as well as driving economic growth through health innovation.
The 15 health innovation networks, including Health Innovation Network South London, accelerate the adoption and spread of proven innovations across the NHS and life sciences sector, including MedTech. They aim to improve health outcomes and drive economic growth by harnessing innovation. Last year alone, the Network's activities benefited over one million patients, attracted almost £500 million of investment, and created or safeguarded more than 900 jobs in the UK.
Bridgewater will spearhead the Network's mission to harness innovation for improved health outcomes and economic growth, focusing on impact. The MedTech sector is encouraged to engage with the 15 individual networks to develop projects that can produce case studies in partnership with the NHS, demonstrating the impact of their products.
