Boyd Gaming Expands Into Pennsylvania With $280.5M Casino Deal

Boyd Gaming has agreed to buy Valley Forge Casino Resort in Pennsylvania for $280.5 million. The deal marks the company's first move into the state and expands its presence to eight US regions. Completion is expected by late summer or early autumn 2018. Valley Forge Casino Resort sits 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia in King of Prussia, an area known for high median incomes and property values. The venue operates as one of Pennsylvania's two Category 3 casinos, featuring 600 slot machines and 50 table games. Under a 2017 gambling expansion law, the casino paid a $1 million fee to remove entry restrictions and add 250 more slots.

Beyond gaming, the resort includes nearly 500 hotel rooms, eight dining options, and over 100,000 square feet of convention space. Boyd Gaming CEO Keith Smith called the purchase an 'excellent opportunity' to strengthen the company's national footprint. Pennsylvania, the second-largest commercial gaming market in the US, is also preparing to launch online gambling. This acquisition follows Boyd's recent $575 million deal for operational rights to Penn National's casinos in Missouri, Indiana, and Ohio. The company now holds properties in eight states, with Valley Forge becoming its first Pennsylvania location.

The $280.5 million deal will finalise in late 2018. Boyd Gaming gains a well-established casino resort in a high-income area near Philadelphia. The move also positions the company to benefit from Pennsylvania's expanding gambling market, including future online operations.
