Botswana's 'Motshameko O Phepha' Campaign Tours Nation for Responsible Gambling
The Gambling Authority of Botswana is currently touring the country with its 'Motshameko O Phepha' campaign, aiming to promote responsible gambling and safeguard communities. The tour, taking place from October 27 to November 1, includes activations in multiple locations across Botswana. Hon. Tiroeaone Kealeboga Ntsima, the Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship, launched the campaign in September 2024.
The campaign, launched by Minister Ntsima, aligns with the government's commitment to balancing the gambling industry's economic potential with community protections. It was initiated following a study by the Gambling Authority on excessive and problem gambling in Botswana. As the campaign expands, the Authority plans to increase public education and reinforce its dedication to safe and transparent gaming practices.
Minister Ntsima links the campaign to Botswana's ESG principles, emphasizing good governance, inclusion, and sustainability. Each stop on the tour hosts community interactions at local shops or Kgotla venues between 10:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. The Motshameko O Phepha roadshow engages communities through educational activities, counselling outreach, and compliance awareness visits. The Authority promotes its toll-free helpline and online counselling platforms to support those affected by gambling-related harm.
The Motshameko O Phepha campaign combines national visibility with strong local partnerships to support responsible industry growth while protecting citizens. The Gambling Authority of Botswana is committed to extending this campaign across the country, ensuring that communities are well-informed and protected from the potential harms of gambling.
