BetBlocker expands responsible gambling tools to Portuguese markets amid industry push
The SBC Summit in Lisbon recently highlighted efforts to make gambling safer and more sustainable. Among the key announcements, BetBlocker launched a Portuguese version of its responsible gaming tool. Founder Duncan Garvie also took part in a panel discussing industry-wide strategies for protecting players.
Garvie stressed that responsible gambling requires action from all sides—companies, regulators, and consumers. He argued that real social good comes from measurable outcomes, not just promises. The industry, he noted, is already taking steps to shield consumers from harm.
The panel explored the USA’s GRIT Act, a proposal to fund responsible gambling initiatives using federal betting taxes. Shelley White, CEO of the Responsible Gambling Council, pointed to other sectors where businesses tackle social issues without seeking recognition. Garvie shared an example of an unnamed company funding BetBlocker’s Romanian translation but staying anonymous to avoid accusations of 'whitewashing'. BetBlocker has gained support from major firms like Aristocrat and built partnerships with DraftKings and Stake.com. The tool’s expansion into Portuguese reflects growing demand for safer gambling solutions across different markets.
The summit underscored rising interest in responsible gambling from consumers, lawmakers, and the industry itself. BetBlocker’s new language version and industry backing signal a push for wider accessibility. Meanwhile, discussions on funding and regulation suggest further changes may be ahead.
