Bavaria is set to host a packed calendar of major events in 2026. The year will mark milestones like the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival and the 80th birthday of the state’s constitution. From world-class music and sports to cultural gatherings, residents and visitors alike will have plenty to look forward to.

The Bayreuth Festival kicks off its 150th anniversary with a grand opening ceremony. For the first time, Wagner’s Rienzi will take the stage there. The festival will also feature a full Ring of the Nibelung cycle, produced with AI-generated elements drawn from past performances.

Würzburg will welcome the Catholic Day from 13 to 17 May, expecting up to 30,000 attendees. Meanwhile, Bavaria’s constitution turns 80, highlighting its strong minister-president role and broad fundamental rights. The document also guarantees public access to the region’s landscapes, with a duty to protect nature. Munich’s Allianz Arena will host two major concerts: Helene Fischer on 17 July and Linkin Park on a yet-to-be-announced date. The city will also see the 42nd Munich Film Festival (26 June–5 July), Klassik am Odeonsplatz (11–12 July), and the Munich Marathon on 11 October. Other highlights include the Lange Nacht der Münchner Museen (17 October), the Kirchweihdult (17–25 October), and the Münchner Brauertag in June. Sportfreunde Stiller will celebrate their 30th anniversary with a tour stopping in Munich, Erlangen, Coburg, and Bayreuth. The year will also feature the Teatron MusikSommer in August and the f.re.e travel fair (18–22 February). Globally, the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada may shape fan mood in Germany. Closer to home, FC Bayern Munich’s potential treble win in 2022–23 could lead to a victory parade at Marienplatz.

With festivals, concerts, and sporting events spread across the region, 2026 promises a diverse mix of entertainment. The anniversary celebrations and major performances will draw crowds from Bavaria and beyond. Organisers are preparing for high attendance at both long-standing traditions and new attractions.
