Bally's Marquette Opens as Iowa's Riverboat Gambling Era Ends

A new gaming and entertainment venue has opened its doors in northeastern Iowa. Bally's Marquette officially launched today after a £21 million transformation of the former Casino Queen Marquette. The site marks the end of riverboat gambling in the state while introducing modern amenities and expanded facilities.

The original Casino Queen Marquette operated as a riverboat casino, part of Iowa's pioneering era of water-based gaming. That chapter has now closed with the shift to a landside location. The new Bally's Marquette spans two levels, complete with a covered entrance for easy access.

Inside, guests will find over 400 slot machines, live table games, and a dedicated sportsbook. Dining options have also expanded, featuring a sports bar, lounge, coffee shop, and grill. The design keeps the scenic riverfront atmosphere while upgrading the overall experience. The project has created nearly 80 new jobs, boosting the local economy. Bally's Corporation, which runs two other land-based casinos in Iowa—Davenport and Dubuque—has overseen the redevelopment. The company aims to blend the site's history with contemporary entertainment offerings.

The opening of Bally's Marquette signals a major change for Iowa's gaming industry. Riverboat casinos, once a staple, have now given way to modern, land-based venues. With its expanded facilities and new jobs, the site is set to become a key destination in the region.
