‘Atom Bomb’ Hendrix, poker’s indomitable spirit, dies at 34 after SMA battle

David 'Atom Bomb' Hendrix, a renowned poker player and the oldest living American with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), has passed away at the age of 34. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Apostolic Church in Amory, Mississippi at 1pm.

Hendrix gained widespread recognition in the poker world after winning a live tournament at the Pearl River Poker Open in Mississippi in 2021. This victory was one of eight cashes he earned, mostly on the Gulf Coast Poker Tour. His intelligence, humor, and bright spirit were deeply admired by those who knew him.

Hendrix was affectionately known among his friends as 'The Atom Bomb'. His impact on the poker community was such that Derek Wilkins, an eight-time WSOP Circuit Ring winner, wore a custom hoodie with Hendrix's picture during his deep run in the WSOP Main Event 2021.
