Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a towering figure in Indian politics, passed away in 2018 at the age of 94. His life was marked by decades of service to the nation as a politician, journalist, and poet. Born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, he rose from humble beginnings to shape India’s modern history.
Vajpayee’s early career began in journalism, where he contributed to publications like Rashtradharma, Panchjanya, Veer Arjun, and Swadesh. His political journey soon took centre stage as he became a long-serving member of parliament and a key leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Before becoming prime minister, he also held the role of foreign minister, crafting policies rooted in the belief that peace must be backed by strength.
His leadership was defined by bold decisions, including the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests, which demonstrated India’s strategic resolve.
