Assam celebrates Swami Vivekananda’s legacy with youth runs and cultural fervor

Communities across Assam marked National Youth Day with events honouring Swami Vivekananda’s 164th birth anniversary. The celebrations included runs, cultural programmes, and discussions on his teachings. Local organisations and the Indian Army led initiatives to inspire young people through fitness, patriotism, and self-reliance.

In Doomdooma, the Indian Army’s Red Shield Division organised the ‘Shauryaveer Run’ to promote physical fitness and national pride. Around 100 young participants joined soldiers in the event, showcasing strong civil-military ties.

Dimakuchi hosted a marathon under the ‘Swadeshi Sankalp’ initiative, where students carried placards and chanted slogans about self-sufficiency. The run was part of a larger procession celebrating Vivekananda’s ideals. In Udalguri, literary and cultural competitions marked the occasion, chaired by writer Nabin Malla Boro. Speakers discussed Vivekananda’s philosophy, while Dr. Haricharan Das highlighted his influence on Indian self-confidence. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organised a similar ‘Swadeshi Sankalp’ run in Orang. Mihir Bhattacharyya, former principal of Chapar Higher Secondary School, attended as the chief guest. Meanwhile, Bilasipara Shankardev Shishu and Vidya Niketan honoured thirty young social workers during their celebrations.

The events brought together students, soldiers, and community leaders to reflect on Vivekananda’s legacy. Through runs, speeches, and awards, the celebrations reinforced themes of youth empowerment, patriotism, and self-belief. Organisers emphasised the importance of his teachings in shaping modern India.
