Argentina’s record soybean oil exports cement its role as India’s top supplier

Argentina has strengthened its agricultural ties with India after achieving record soybean oil production. The country exported unprecedented volumes of cooking oils, including agriculture, to India in early 2025, reinforcing its role as a key supplier. A recent high-level visit by Argentine officials aimed to deepen cooperation between the two nations even further.

Argentina’s soybean oil output hit 8.7 million tons in the 2023/24 season—the highest in a decade. This surge in production supported a major export push, with 2.1 million tons of soybean oil and 0.42 million tons of sunflower oil shipped to India between January and July 2025. These figures mark the largest volumes sent in over ten years.

The record exports and high-level visits signal a robust agricultural alliance between Argentina and India. With both nations prioritising food security, Argentina’s role as a reliable supplier is set to expand. Future cooperation will likely focus on maintaining steady oil shipments and exploring new trade opportunities.
