Ahmedabad University’s SICAFA Festival Bridges Tradition and Modern Art in a Week of Creativity
Ahmedabad University launched the Sabarmati International Contemporary Arts Festival of Ahmedabad (SICAFA) to strengthen its ties with the city’s cultural scene. The week-long event, held from March 11 to 18, 2025, brought together artists, scholars, and the public in a celebration of creativity. More than just a festival, it aimed to spark dialogue between tradition and modern expression.
The festival kicked off with Manganiyar Seduction, a striking performance by 40 Rajasthani musicians inside a towering, illuminated structure. Over 2,000 spectators attended the opening, setting the tone for a week of diverse artistic encounters.
SICAFA closed after a week of performances, conversations, and creative exchanges. The festival not only showcased artistic talent but also laid the groundwork for the University’s future School of Performing and Visual Arts. By bridging tradition and contemporary practice, it reinforced the importance of the arts in education and public life.
