Acme Power Plant Cleanup Nears Completion Despite Structural Collapse Risks

The Sheridan County Conservation District is leading the project with support from engineers, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Their focus is securing funding to demolish the most hazardous parts of the building. Two turbine rooms, damaged by a roof collapse and asbestos contamination, cannot be saved.

The project aims to remove hazards from the former power plant and restore the land. Demolition of the unsafe sections will address structural and asbestos risks. Once complete, the site will no longer pose environmental or safety concerns to the surrounding area.
